Solview command in AutoCAD – Create the projections from 3D solid model

1. The way to call Solview command in AutoCAD.

Solview command in AutoCAD
Solview command in AutoCAD
Solview command creates the dynamic viewports in layout by using perpendicular projection to create other perpendicular projections, extra projection, section figure of 3D solids object.
Solview command arranges the objects of the viewport on VPORTS layer. Solview command will create this layer on not-yet-existing drawing. Private information of projection is saved together with the viewport which you create by Solview command.
Solview command creates the layers which Solview command uses to put visible lines and hidden lines for each projection. They are: view name-VIS, view name-HID, view name-HAT and view name-DIM layer. There you can specify visible dimension on the private viewports.
  • Note:
The information on these layers are deleted and updated when you activate Soldraw command. Please do not put the permanent information on these layers.
  • Solview

Enter an option [Ucs/Ortho/Auxiliary/Section]: Enter an option or ENTER to complete the command.

2. The options with Solview command in AutoCAD
UCS

Create the relative viewport boundary in comparison with UCS. If there is no existing viewport in your drawing, UCS option is the best way to create an original viewport where viewports can be created. All other options of Solview command require having a viewport.

You use current UCS or previous saved UCS as projection plane. The projections of objects are created on the plane in parallel with XY plane of UCS, in which X axis directs to the right and Y axis direct upward. When you enter U instead of the option, the prompt line appears:

  • Enter an option [Named/World/?/Current] <current>: Enter an option.

Named

Use XY plane of named UCS as projection plane

  • Enter name of UCS to restore: Enter name of UCS to restore.
  • Enter view scale <1.0>: Enter scale to zoom the viewport.

Enter name of UCS you want to use and scale of viewport. Entering a scale is equivalent with zooming the viewport by relative coefficient in comparison with paper space. The default value is 1:1.

  • Specify view center: Specify a point as center of viewport.

Center bases on area of current model space. You can try many points until you satisfy the position of the viewport.

At the next prompt line, you define the opposite corners of viewport.

  • Specify the first corner of viewport: Specify the first corner of viewport
  • Specify the other corner of viewport: Specify the opposite corner of viewport
  • Enter view name: Enter viewport name.

World

Create the projection boundary on XY plane of WCS. When you enter W instead of the option, the following prompt line appears:

  • Enter view scale <1.0>: Enter scale to zoom the viewport
  • Specify view center: Specify a point as center of viewport
  • Specify the first corner of viewport: Specify the first corner P1 of viewport
  • Specify the other corner of viewport: Specify the opposite corner P2 of viewport
  • Enter view name: Enter viewport name
  • Come back the first prompt line of Solview command

List Named UCSs

  • List names of UCSs which are restored in drawing.
  • Enter UCS names to list <*>: Enter UCS name or press ENTER to list all UCSs.
  • After the list is displayed, press any key to come back the prompt line.

Current

  • Use XY plane of current UCS to create the boundary of viewport.

Solview

  • Enter an option [Ucs/Ortho/Auxiliary/Section]: U

– Enter an option [Named/World/?/Current] <Current>:

  • Enter view scale <1>: 3 Enter scale of viewport
  • Specify view center: Specify C point as viewport center
  • Specify view center <specify viewport>:
  • Specify first corner of viewport: Press P1 as the first corner of viewport
  • Specify opposite corner of viewport: Press Ps as the opposite corner of viewport
  • Enter view name: HCD. Enter viewport name.
  • Enter an option [Ucs/Ortho/Auxiliary/Section]: .

Note:

  • To display the hidden lines on viewport, you use Solprof command

Ortho

  • Create a perpendicular projection from existing projection.
  • One time you choose the side of viewport you want to use to project a new projection, an elastic line which is perpendicular with the side of this viewport helps you to fix the center of new viewport. You can try many points until you satisfy the position of viewport.

Auxiliary

  • Create the overall extra projection from existing basic projection. the overall extra projection is the projection that projects whole object on the plane which is perpendicular with plane of basic projection and oblique in comparison with planes of basic projection connecting with it.

Solview

Enter an option [Ucs/Ortho/Auxiliary/Section]: A

  • Specify first point of inclined plane: Specify A point as the first point of oblique plane (need to open the method of catching Endpoint to catch A point)
  • Specify second point of inclined plane: Specify B point as the second point of oblique plane
  • Specify side to view from: Specify E point as view point.
  • Specify view center: Specify C point as viewport center.
  • Specify view center <specify viewport>:¿
  • Specify the first corner of viewport: Specify point P1 as the first corner of viewport
  • Specify the opposite corner of viewport: Specify point P2 as the opposite corner of viewport
  • Enter view name: HCP ¿ Enter viewport name of extra projection.
  • Enter an option [Ucs/Ortho/Auxiliary/Section]: Enter A to create other extra projection or press ENTER to complete.

Section
Create sectional view of solids, complete sectional views by dash lines of section. When you use Soldraw command, the dash lines are created on section, it creates a temporary copy of solids and uses Slice command to carry out the action at section you define. Soldraw command creates the boundary of visible half of solids and remove the original copy. Because according to technical drawing standard, it is advised to not draw hidden lines on sections, Solview command freezes View Name-HID layer.

In original viewport, please specify 2 points to define section.
