Pface command in AutoCAD – Polyface command – Create 3D flat polyface

1. The way to call Pface command in AutoCAD

Screen menu Type command
Draw 2 » Surfaces » Pface: Pface

Pface (Polyface) command creates 3D flat polyface by defining each vertex.

  • Pface

Specify location for vertex 1: – Enter the first vertex
Specify location for vertex 2 or <define faces>: – Enter the second vertex
Specify location for vertex n or <define faces>: – Enter the n vertex or press

2. The options with Pface command in AutoCAD.

  • Vertex Location

This option is used to define all vertexes of polyface.

  • Define Faces

If you press ENTER at the empty line, Define Faces option is assigned and the next prompt line appears that requires you to enter the number of vertexes for each face.

  • Pface

Specify location for vertex 1: Select the first position for the first vertex
Specify location for vertex 2 or <define faces>: @ 120,0,0 – Enter the second vertex
Specify location for vertex 3 or <define faces>: @ 0,160,0 – Enter the third vertex
Specify location for vertex 4 or <define faces>: @ -50,0,0 – Enter the fourth vertex
Specify location for vertex 5 or <define faces>: @ 0,-70,0 – Enter the fifth vertex
Specify location for vertex 6 or <define faces>: @ -70,0,0 – Enter the sixth vertex
Specify location for vertex 7 or <define faces>: @ 0,0,100 – Enter the seventh vertex
Specify location for vertex 8 or <define faces>: @ 0,-90,0 – Enter the eighth vertex
Specify location for vertex 9 or <define faces>:

  • Note:

To create an invisible edge, you enter a minus vertex number for the start vertex of that edge. The system variable SPLFRAME controls the display of invisible edges in polyface. When you set up this variable with value which is different to 0, all invisible edges of polyface are displayed.
You can create the even polygons with any vertex number. Pface command automatically clips them into many faces with corresponding invisible edges. You cannot use Pedit command to edit polyface.

  • Color

The faces are created by Pface command following to the selected properties: color, lintype, width of stroke or the properties of current layer. You can choose color from Color Index (color is entered following to color name or color number from 1 ¸ 255), True color, or color from Color book.

  • Layer

The faces are created by Pface command following to color and the properties of current layer. The net faces of polyface can be created following to the properties of current layer. Layer can be seen on the surface of polyface. However, if you create it on frozen layer, no surface of that layer is created.

Good luck!
