DGNexport command in AutoCAD – Export the drawing into MicroStation V8 DGN file

Start File Export…. Or start the command DGNexport the dialog box Export Data appears:

In the dialog box Export Data, in the list Files of Type, choose V8 DGN (*.dgn).

Enter name of DGN file at File Name. Not using Asian characters or marks.

Press Save, dialog box Export DGN Settings appears

In the dialog box Export DGN Settings, specify the export options you want.

Press OK.

  • External DWG References

Control the way that xrefs is treated.

  • Translate All DWG References to DGN Files

All referred DWG files, including nested DWG References, are changed to DGN files. The relationships of references are maintained but all DGN result files are created in a same folder. The result DGN files use the same file name such as DWG files, but with the extension end “.dgn”

  • Bind All DWG References into one DGN File

The parent DWG file and all DWG reference files are combined into single DGN file. The DWG reference files will be changed to cells as a part of DGN basis file.

  • Ignore DWG References

The DWG reference files are not mentioned in DGN result file.

  • External DGN References

Control the bound DGN in DWG file that is changed to DGN reference of EGN result file.

  • Export DGN Underlays

When checking, any bound DGN is changed to DGN reference following to the basis drawing. When deleting, bound DGN is not exported.

  • Seed File

Seed file for DGN file is similar to (DWT) file of sample drawing, including default establishments and characteristics such as: working unit, the choice of suitable DGN seed file (Imperial, Metric or determined users). Moreover, seed file includes the establishments which are not existed in DWG file, so it is inherited in the exported DGN.

These establishments include the working units and resolution as well as 2D or 3D file.

  • Conversion Units

Choose the suitable transforming units to translate. DGN seed file includes the working units (imperial or metric) which are named master units and sub-units. A DWG-unit is changed to a master-unit or a sub-unit.

  • Master Units

Defining a DWG drawing unit will turn into a master unit of DGN determined seed file.

  • Sub Units

Defining a DWG drawing unit will turn into a sub-unit of DGN determined seed file.
