UCSicon command in AutoCAD – Control the display of the user coordinate system icon (UCS icon)

1. The way to call UCSicon command in AutoCAD

Scroll down menu	Screen menu	Type command
View » Display » UCS Icon » ON…	TOOLS » Ucsicon	Ddvpoint

UCSicon command controls the display of the user coordinate system icon (UCS icon). Icon of USC performs the direction of UCS axis and the origin position of current UCS.

To get visualization for the direction of current UCS, you can display USC icon. You can change the dimension, position and color of icon.

The different UCS icons are displayed in paper space and model space. In both cases, plus mark (+) appears at the origin of the icon when it is located at the origin of current UCS. W character appears on Y axis of WCS icon (World Coordinate System) when you use the icon of axis system similar to AutoCAD 2000.

 

A square appears at the origin of icon if you view UCS from above (plus direction of Z axis). The square does not appear if you view UCS from below, from the right.

With 3D UCS icon, the icon of Z axis is bold when you view from above XY plane and is dash when you view from below XY plane.

Broken pencil icon replaces for 2D UCS icon when the view direction is in the plane which is in parallel with XY plane of UCS. Broken pencil icon shows that the edge of XY plane is almost perpendicular with your view direction. This icon warns that you did not use the pointer to enter the coordinate.

3D UCS icon does not use the broken pencil icon.

UCSicon

– Enter an option [ON/OFF/All/Noorigin/ORigin/Properties] <current>: Enter an option to display USC icon or press ENTER.

2. The options for UCSicon command

On /Off: Display (turn off) UCS ison.

All: Display the ion in all activated viewports. Other way,
UCSICON command just effects on current viewport.

UCSicon
– Enter an option [ON/OFF/All/Noorigin/ORigin/Properties] <current>: A ¿
– Enter an option [ON/OFF/Noorigin/ORigin] <current>: Enter an option to apply for all activated viewports.

• No Origin Display the icon at the left bottom corner of screen of viewport, not depend on the position of UCS origin (picture 2.6b)
• ORigin Display the icon at the origin (0,0,0) of current UCS (picture 2.6c)
• Properties Display UCS Icon dialog box (picture 2.7) where you can control the icon style, visibility and position of UCS.

3. The options

• UCS Icon Style

Choose the display of 3D or 2D icon and its appearance.

• 2D: Display 2D icon without performing Z axis.
• 3D: Display 3D icon

• Cone: Display 3D cone arrow headers for X, Y axis if 3D icon is selected. If you cancel cone option, the arrow headers are replaced.
• Line Width: Control the line width of UCS icon if 3D icon is selected. The line width has value: 1, 2, 3.

– Preview Display the preview of UCS icon in model space.
– UCS Icon Size Control the size of UCS icon which is percentage (%) of viewport size that it displays. The default value is 12, the value range from 5 – 95.
– UCS Icon Color Control the color of UCS icon in viewport of model space (Model Space Icon Color) and color in layout tabs (Layout Tab Icon Color)
