DimContinue command in CAD

DimContinue command in cad (dimcont command, dco command in cad, command to specify consecutive dimension in cad): it is the command to specify the dimension series following an existing dimension in autocad.

Below is the way to use dimcontinue command in cad:

  • Command: dimcontinue, dimcont
  • Shortcut command: DCO
  • Menu : dimension\continue

1. Follow the dimension that has been just specified.

The first extension line of the dimension that will be specified (straight dimension, angle, coordinate) is the second extension line of the dimension that has been just specified.

Command : DCO↵ or Dimcontinue

  • Specify a second extension line origin or [Undo/Select] <Select>: origin of the second extension line P3
  • Specify a second extension line origin or [Undo/Select] <Select>: origin of the second extension line P4
  • Specify a second extension line origin or [Undo/Select] <Select>: origin of the second extension line P5
  • Specify a second extension line origin or [Undo/Select] <Select>: origin of the second extension line P6
  • Specify a second extension line origin or [Undo/Select] <Select>: Press ESC to complete the command. When you want to complete the command, you use ESC or press ENTER 2 times.

2. Follow with any dimension.

If you want to specify the dimension following with an existing dimension on drawing (not the dimension which has just been specified), at the first prompt line you press S or ENTER.

Then the below prompt line will appear Select continued dimension: Choose the extension line of specified dimension to be the first extension line.

The continuous extension lines will appear as the above part.

3. Command for specifying the dimension of following angle. 

Command : DAN↵ or Dimangular

Select arc, circle, line or <specify vertex>: ↵

  • Specify angle vertex: Choose angle top, example: center of big circle
  • Specify first angle endpoint: Define endpoint of the first side
  • Specify second angle endpoint: Define endpoint of the second side
  • Specify dimension arc line location or [Mtext/Text/Angle]: Choose the position of dimension arc line

Command : DCOor Dimcontinue

  • Specify a second extension line origin or [Undo/Select] <Select>: Choose the following side at point P3
  • Specify a second extension line origin or [Undo/Select] <Select>: Choose the following side at point P4
  • Specify a second extension line origin or [Undo/Select] <Select>: Choose the following side at point P5
  • Specify a second extension line origin or [Undo/Select] <Select>: Choose the following side at point P6
  • Specify a second extension line origin or [Undo/Select] <Select>: Choose the following side at point P7
  • Specify a second extension line origin or [Undo/Select] <Select>: Choose the following side at point P8
  • Specify a second extension line origin or [Undo/Select] <Select>: Press ESC to complete the command.
