The way to call Flatshot command in AutoCAD

This command creates 2D projection of all 3D solids and regions in the viewport.

Projection is a block, that is a flat performing figure of 3D model, is projected to XY plane. After inserting this block, it can be edited by this flat projection including 2D objects. This characteristic is usually used to create the technical illustrations.

You can make the drawing following to the parallel or perpendicular projection.

  • Flat projection is created with following parameters:

All 3D objects in the model space viewport are copied (capture). Put the objects which you do not want to copy on the turned-off or freezing layers.

  • The created flat projections are blocks, can be renamed and edited by using Bedit command.
  • The blocks are created by setting up the display of colors and linetypes in Foreground Lines and Obscured Lines frames in Flatshot dialog box.
  • The hidden lines and visible lines are copied and displayed in the block by using the display setting to Foreground Lines and Obscured Lines in Flatshot dialog box.
  • 3D objects which are clipped by the clip objects are copied following to their entire status. Platshot command copies these objects when they are not clipped.

  • Flatshot
  • Flatshot dialog box appears.
  • Destination frame: Control the place where flat performing figure is created.
  • Foreground Lines frame: Define color and linetype which are not hidden in flat projection. 
  • Obscured Lines frame: Define color and linetype which are hidden in flat projection. 
  • Show: Control the display of hidden line in flat performing figure if you choose this square box.

  • Create: After pressing this node, the flat performing figure is created and the following prompt line appears:

– Specify insertion point or [Basepoint/Scale/X/Y/Z/Rotate]: Specify insertion point on drawing.

– Enter X scale factor, specify opposite corner, or [Corner/XYZ] <1>: Enter insertion scale following to X axis.

– Enter Y scale factor <use X scale factor>: Enter insertion scale following to Y axis or press ENTER so that the insertion scale following to Y axis equals the insertion scale following to X axis

  • Specify rotation angle <0>: Enter rotation angle of insertion block around insertion point
