Freespot command in AutoCAD – Create the free spotlight
Freespot command in AutoCAD – Create the free spotlight
- The way to call Freespot command in AutoCAD
Freespot command makes the free spotlight, similar to Spotlight but without the determined goal point.
- Freespot
– Specify source location <0,0,0>: Specify the position of the light source
Is system variable LIGHTINGUNITS is set up equal 0, the following prompt line appears:
- Enter an option to change [Name/Intensity/Status/Hotspot/Falloff/shadoW/ Attenuation/ Color/eXit] <exit>:
Is system variable LIGHTINGUNITS is set up equal 1 or 2, the following prompt line appears:
- Enter an option to change [Name/Intensity factor/Photometry/Status/Hotspot/ Falloff/ shadoW/ filterColor/eXit] <eXit>:
Use the options of Freespot command similarly as the options of Spotlight command
- Created Free spot light following to Photometric lighting workflow
1. Enter Lightingunits command and set up the value equal 1 (International units) or 2 (American units) for Photometric lighting.
2. Enter command
3. Specify the position of light source in the drawing.
4. Enter N at the command prompt line and enter name. This name will appear in the properties and in Lights in Model window when calling the command
5. Press ENTER to exit the command.
Choose the light source and use grip tools to change the light source.
6. Click the right mouse on the light source and then choose Properties. You can use Lighting-Properties window to change the light source, change the photometric properties.
Shade shade the model
Freespot command in AutoCAD – Create the free spotlight
- Use the spotlights
Spotlight can be orientated to the object.
a) Spotlights
Spotlight shines a focused beam of light as flashlight, spot in the theatre, or headlight of cars. Spotlight shines a orientated light cone. You can control the direction of light and the scale of cone. As a point light, spotlight can be set up to control by hand to reduce its light intensity basing on the distance. However, the intensity of spotlight also always reduces basing on the relative angle in comparison with goal vector of spot. This attenuation is controlled by the corners hotspot and falloff of spotlight. Spotlights is to set off the certain characteristics and the regions in the model. The free spotlight ( Freespot) is similar to spotlight. Spotlight has the goal properties.

b) Spotlights shine following to Photometric
According to photometric workflow, hotspot intensity is 50 %. Hotspot for standard lighting is 100 %. With its falloff angle, the intensity of Spotlight is 0. The additional properties become available for pointlight when LIGHTINGUNITS is set up equal 1 (International SI units) or 2 (American units) for Photometric Lighting:
- Lamp Intensity. Define the existing intensity of light. Define intensity, flux or illuminance of lamp.
- Resulting Intensity. Record the last brightness of light, (the result of lamp intensity and intensity coefficient. Read-only).
- Lamp Color. Define the existing color of light following to Kelvin or Standard temperature.
- Resulting Color. Record the last color of light. This is defined by combining between the color of lamp and the color of the filter – Read-only.
Good luck!
