In fact, this is not error, but is the result of some options we did in Option dialog box. Let us help you the way to overcome error of dim change in AutoCAD. This method is one of error collections which 100% CAD drawers get in the chapter of tips for quickly drawing of Advanced AutoCAD course. The method is as follows:

  • At working model, you enter OP command to call Option dialog box:

ο OP => Enter
ο OPTION dialog box appears. You click to select User Preferences card

At Associative Dimensionning frame, Click to cancel mark in Make new dimensions associative bar.

Next, you work with Dimassoc variable (in fact, dimension objects on drawing are controlled by Dimassoc variable)

Command: Dimassoc ↵

  • Enter: 0 => Create exploded dimension (xploded)
  • Enter: 1 => Create dimension without linking to the selected object
  • Enter: 2 => Create dimension linking to the selected object (culprit causes error of dim change)

Here you need to use variable 1

The created dimensions before using these settings will still link to objects, to resolve this problem thoroughly; you need to use DDA command and select all dimension objects in the drawing then press Enter.

Command: DDA ↵

  • Select all objects => enter
