Leader command in CAD

Leader command in CAD (led command in cad): it is the command to specify dimension following leader line in autocad. Below is the way to use leader command in cad:

  • Command: leaderl
  • Shortcut command: led
  • Menu: dimension\leader

Leader command specifies the annotations for leader line, marks the position number in fitting drawing… Leader is an object including arrow head sticking with segments which are straight lines or spline line. Plus, there is a small horizontal straight line segment under the descriptive character line. If dimension is bond (variable DIMASSOC = ON), the start-point of Leader will connect to a position of the object. If geometric object changes the arrow position of leader which will connect to the object and the leader lines will pull longer, the annotation lines are still located at the same position.

  • Specify leader start point: The first leader point P1
  • Specify next point: The next leader point P2
  • Enter first line of annotation text or <options>: Type annotation line or ENTER
  • Specify next point: The next leader point P3 or ENTER
  • Specify next point or [Annotation/Format/Undo] <Annotation>: Type annotation line or ENTER
  • Enter next line of annotation text: Continue to type annotation line or ENTER to complete the command. Then, dialog box Edit Mtext will appear, you can enter dimension number. At the prompt line “Specify leader start point” you use the method of selecting point NEArest. If at the prompt line Annotation, you press ENTER, the below prompt lines will appear:

  • Enter an annotation option [Tolerance/Copy/Block/None/Mtext] <Mtext>: Press ENTER or use the choices.

The choices

  • At this choice, the prompt line appears: Enter leader format option [Spline/STraight/Arrow/None]<Exit>:
  • Spline/STraight the leader line can be the curve (Spline) or straight line (STraight)
  • Annotation :This choice allows to type dimension number line or character line.
  • Mtext: Show dialog box Text Formatting which allows to enter text.
  • Tolerance: Allow to specify the error margin of shape and position by dialog box Geometric Tolerance (check more at Tolerance command)
  • Copy: Copy an object which is a character line (enter by command Text, Dtext or Mtext) to the begin of leader line. This line will connect to specified dimension. When you enter C, it will appear Select an object to copy: Choose the character line which needs to copy.
  • Block: Chock a block to the begin of leader line. When enter B Enter block name or [?]:
  • None: There is no annotation at the begin of leader line.
